I sincerely have only praise and admiration for JICF, its mission and philosophy, the amazing staff, and its founding director Maestro HeeChurl Kim. I am honored to play a small role in this significant festival each year. Each year this festival continues to grow in size and stature throughout South Korea, Asia and the entire world. It is no exaggeration to say that the top choirs and conductors from every corner of the globe watch this festival very closely. This festival and the related activities sponsored by the ChunSong Foundation are helping to make the world a better place through choral music, community building and service projects that bring people together.

The status of JICF continues to grow and be recognized around the world by top conductors for the high quality of the festival structure, the high artistic standards of every performance, and the educational components that elevate the knowledge of all festival participants and the international choral profession.
Á¦ÁÖ±¹Á¦ÇÕâÃàÁ¦´Â ´õ ³ôÀº Ä÷¸®Æ¼ÀÇ ÇÁ·Î±×·¥, °¢ °ø¿¬ÀÇ ¿¹¼úÀû ¼öÁØ, ±×¸®°í ÃàÁ¦ Âü°¡ÀÚµéÀÇ Áö½Ä°ú ´õ ¸¹Àº ÇÕâÀεéÀÌ »ý°Ü ³¯ ¼ö ÀÖµµ·Ï ±³À°ÀûÀÎ ¿ä¼ÒµéÀ» ´õÇÏ°í ¼¼°èÀûÀÎ ÁöÈÖÀÚµéÀ» ÅëÇÑ ´Ù¾çÇÑ ¹æ¹ýÀ¸·Î ÀÎÁöµµ¸¦ ³ôÀÌ¸ç ¼ºÀåÇÏ°í ÀÖ´Ù.
3. ÇÕâ À½¾Ç ÁöÈÖÀÚÀÇ Æ¯º°ÇÑ Á¡Àº ¹«¾ùÀϱî¿ä?
The Choral Conductor as professional is responsible for a diverse set of tasks that often extend beyond the music. Of course, interpreting the music is the top priority. The Choral Conductor must work diligently to realize the composers’ intentions. Additionally, the Choral Conductor must also be an expert in Vocal Technique, Foreign Language Diction, and be adept at working with instrumentalists. The Choral Conductor must be an Historian able to contextualize why music exists, not just how to perform it well. The Choral Conductor must be an effective communicator who understands and loves working with groups of people from different backgrounds. The Choral Conductor is often a mentor, an advisor, a philosopher, a psychologist, a counselor, a parental figure and even a disciplinarian. Ultimately, the Choral Conductor is someone who loves people and builds community through choral music.

4. ACDA°¡ Ãß±¸ÇÏ´Â ºñÀü°ú À̳äÀº ¹«¾ùÀΰ¡¿ä?
As a not-for-profit organization, ACDA’s primary goal is to create excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy. This means that every project, festival, conference and performance, ACDA strives to help all conductors, choral musicians, and composers learn and grow as one community. Beyond this primary goal, ACDA is also committed to being a positive influence in the community and building bridges between choral communities around the world.

5. ACDAÀÇ ÁÖ¿ä ·¹ÆÛÅ丮´Â ¹«¾ùÀΰ¡¿ä?
The main programs ACDA offers take the form of the monthly publication, The Choral Journal and the annual conferences that feature performances, educational sessions and workshops for every aspect of the choral art. Additional programs exist in Advocacy and Collaboration, Choral Repertoire and Resources, Composition Initiatives, Diversity Initiatives, Education and Communication, International Activities, and Research and Publications. I personally chair the International Activities Committee and I direct the International Conductors Exchange Program.

6. °³ÀÎÀûÀ¸·Î °¡Àå ÁÁ¾ÆÇÏ´Â ÇÕâ°îÀ» ²Å´Â´Ù¸é? ±× ÀÌÀ¯´Â?
Throughout my career, I have always trusted my heart over my intellect. For this reason, the music of Johannes Brahms will forever hold a special place in my heart. My favorite composition by Brahms is Nänie with text by Friedrich Schiller. The text states that “even the beautiful must die, but to be remembered on the lips of a loved one is holy”. This sentiment gives me hope and helps to connect to the shared humanity in all people.
¼ö¸¹Àº °æÇèÀ» ÅëÇØ °®°í ÀÖ´Â Áö½Äº¸´Ù´Â ¸¶À½ÀÌ °¡´Â ¹æÇâÀ» µû¶ó¾ßÇÑ´Ù´Â °ÍÀ» ¹è¿ü½À´Ï´Ù. ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ ÀÌÀ¯·Î ºê¶÷½º(Johannes Brahms)ÀÇ À½¾ÇÀº Á¦ ¸¶À½¿¡ ¿µ¿øÈ÷ Ưº°ÇÏ°Ô ³²¾ÆÀÖÀ» °ÍÀ̱⠶§¹®ÀÔ´Ï´Ù. I hope that all choirs will attend the Jeju International Choral Festival and arrive with open minds, open hearts and a willingness to learn from those they interact with. Most importantly, I hope each participating choir will sing with passion and a heart full of love!
